A short time back, Walmart tried to break into the gaming computers that were only meant to give reviewers a good laugh. That died and their second and even cheaper charges were even worse. I've used $ 150 phones that work better than this. But today, that is changing. This is a 15.6-inch Gateway GWTN156-3BK workbook. And of course, it may not sound like much, and it may not seem like much, but it is also not very expensive. It is currently on sale at Walmart for $ 700 while packing the RTX 2060. That is to say, this could be a very efficient gaming laptop ready to bring the best AAA gaming experience. But does it also bring good laptop experience? Yes, it depends. Just as I rely on reliable categories like these.
Shake the i5-10300H core and the Nvidia RTX 2060 this item should on paper be a flippin that can function as a gaming device. So let's get into it. Can Cyberpunk 2077 run? Oh, yes, it could be. Here we are in the middle settings that work at about 60 frames per second, which in a game like this, is about what you need to have a good time. And it still looks really good. Even the slides in the game are not strangled at all to the right. Now you may be worried that the RTX 2060 we have here will be the last one soon. But remember guys, this is a good thing. This laptop is compelling due to the promotional price of $ 700. And with the new hardware just in the corner, we can expect this product to stick, not, for so long, maybe until it’s all gone. Return to the games immediately. It also brought the prices of the most sensible framework in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Rainbow Six Siege, easily getting 120 frames per second on ultra, which is great because, good surprise. It also has a high refresh rate indicator. More on that later though. Now we would use some benches however, this thing will only end with a 256 Gig SSD. So after scoring these three games, he was full. So I think at this point, we should open it up and find that the storage and RAM of that issue are easily upgraded. Because if you don't, it will be very difficult to recommend you. After 10 Phillips screws, good news for everyone, two easily accessible SO-DIMM spaces and two M.2 each half are full. This means that in the first year or so with little storage, it can be easy to turn this thing into a more powerful machine.
So to work wisely there, the 15.6-inch workbook looks at all the boxes. However, I was not worried about that. What bothered me the most was everything else that made a laptop look good, like a keyboard, screen and track pad. For comparison at the time, we brought HP Omen 15. On paper, the specs here are the same, but, once sold, The Omen 15 is still $ 300 more, is Gatewayfind $ 300 for a discount? No, in a few places. First, create quality. Both of these laptops have a plastic chassis, but the HP has wrapped the upper half in aluminum which results in more durability and usually premium feel everywhere you touch your hand. With that said, Gateway is not too bad at this. With a strong, acceptable C. In IO, they are equally awesome and share directly with the Intel Wi-Fi 6 contact card. That is the place for some companies that have lost in the past with their budget offerings. Although HP gains a few points by installing Thunderbolt 3. Moving forward on the display. Previously, some cheaphigh regeneration panels would have been TN or supported only 6-bit color. I am also pleased to report that Gateway has a compact 120 Hz IPS panel with 8-bit color. The display of a high level of refreshment simply means that you will be able to compete more in the multiplayer than someone games with a 60 Hz screen. And with a resolution of 1080p the RTX 2060 will be working with almost everything over 120 FPS to take advantage of it. On the way out it looks really good. However, in partnership with HP, there is no competition. The brightness and color in The Omen just blew up the Gateway machine in the water. It won't be a big deal if you only plan to play or stay in the dark, but if you do any photo or video editing, I can plan something for a better show. Another place Gateway could have been removed for cooling. Good cooling means that more copper and brass are more expensive. And using Fur Mark for half an hour ensured that, for sure HPdoes has better cooling, its GPU is set at just 67 levels while Gateway is 72. But, because they both controlled equally with the same clock and ended up pressing hard, not thermals, I was very happy. Although HP ended up earning two or three FPS. Both also have the same sound. But Gateway fans had a super high glow that made them even angrier. Of course, with any of them, you'll probably want to stay away from open headphones while playing. This is a common practice that this is good and this works best with a keyboard, track pad, and speakers. The HP wins, but only just. And the Gateway remains good enough such that you won't be complaining while using any of those things. Bringing us then to our firstreal problem, battery life. In PCMark 10s modern office benchmark the Omen 15 put up a respectable six hours and 14 minutes. In the same benchmark with the same settings and screen brightness, our gateway managed just an hour and a half. That is a big oof right there. If you catch my drift. An hour and a half isn't just bad. Like, it's way worse than what made sense to us. So we started the test again and realized, Oh, good old Norton Antivirus was chewing up 90% of the CPU scanning every part of the test that opened. By using the best pieceof software Norton makes we were able to increase the battery life of this thing to nearly six hours. Freaking wow! At least it wasn't a hardware problem, right? Now it should be mentioned that HP did still deliver more performance on battery and has a much bigger battery. So if you plan on doinganything away from the wall besides watching videos or using Word, it will be a better choice. But the Gateway wasn't nearly as bad as it seemed out of the box. I do still have a question though, I keep calling this a Gateway. But who the heck actually made this laptop? Gateway has been basically a dead company for the last 10 years with its owner Acer letting it slowly rot. At first I thought maybe it was just like a re badged Nitro 5 packaged up for Walmart. But looking at the Nitro 5 and the performance notebook side by side. They're clearly not the same machine at all.
My next guest then was Clevo. But I couldn't find any matches and it also wasn't Bmorn technology who makes Gateway's otherWalmart exclusive laptops. We actually looked at one ofthose a little while back, so go watch that video if you wanna see what a slow motiondumpster fire looks like. No, this was made by Tongfang, the GK5NR0O to be exact. Is that right? Yup! - The zero-oh, wow, unbelievable. Which is good to know if you wanna find some upgrades for it off of sites like AliExpress. For example, this muchjuicier 62.3 watt hour battery can be had for just $68. Almost a nice price. Basically then from this comparison, the HP Omen 15 is a betterlaptop in every single way. And if you find it on sale, it's the one you shouldget out of the two. But, the Gateway performancenotebook 15.6 inch also doesn't have any brutal flaws. At $700 the performance notebook gives you everything you need and over the next year or two it can easily become a fair bit better as you upgrade the RAM, storageand maybe even the battery. So, it's certified cheapskate legit.
